Dear Subscriber,

Welcome to the January issue of CHAKRASM which is packed full of great interviews, information and stuff to help, inform and improve you and your business.

We kick off 2011 with an exciting announcement and a new face on the team as Todd Withrow joins Third Eye!

Can Happiness Deliver Bottom Line Results? Psychologist and author Dr. Donna Daisy helps us find the answer.

Do you have a Plan B? If you don't, you should, and it doesn't have to mean bailing on your business, according to Sarah Needleman of the Wall Street Journal.

On a lighter note, self proclaimed "wrinkly rock journo", (that's journalist to you and me) Jerry Gilbert rambles on about.......well, I'm not quite sure really but it's fun reading, in Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

Trend spotting guru Reinier Evers gives us the top 11 consumer trends for the year.

To prove the age old saying "there's no rest for the wicked", Karl Gibbons steps down as President of N.A.P.L.E.S. and joins the SBDC Advisory Board at FGCU.

Last, but by no means least, no issue of CHAKRASM would be complete without a "Wise Quack" from The Donald who shares his New Year's resolutions, plus a "Final Thought" from Mr. Bevan.

Well, what are you waiting for.......? Get reading CHAKRASM - enjoy!

Oh yes, almost forgot....... Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Happiness Delivers
Bottom Line Results
by Donna Daisy, Ph.D.
-

For years we have heard about the link between happiness and your health. Now there are equally exciting research findings about the link between happy people in the workplace and business success. According to Shawn Achor, researcher and author of the book The Happiness Advantage, the single greatest competitive advantage in the modern economy is a positive engaged workforce.

Third Eye President Honored

In recognition of his two years as President of the Naples Area Professional League of Executive Services (N.A.P.L.E.S.) Third Eye CEO, Karl Gibbons, was presented with an Honoree Membership. Seen here is Karl receiving the award from the new President Jenny Foegen and outgoing Vice President Tony Marino. Members also presented Karl (also affectionately known as P.O.N.G. - President of Naples Group) with a tee shirt on which members had "left their mark!" Comments included; "You are the best, you raised the bar and made it happen! Thanks for your leadership and brutal honesty! You have inspired me!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah..........
by Jerry Gilbert

The wager was laid down after the fourth (or was it fifth? - who cares!) gin and tonic.

Could an ageing rock journalist, whom it is Karl's misfortune to call his next door neighbor, mitigate a slow (for 'slow' read non-existent) business week for me by delivering 700 words to meet the CHAKRASM eNews deadline?

Another new year, another roller coaster of threats and opportunities. We tend to focus on the latter as, amidst currency wars and defaulting nations, there are more opportunities than ever for creative brands and entrepreneurs to deliver on changing consumer needs. From Brazil to Belgium. No rest for the wicked!

Plan B
by Sarah Needleman
Wallstreet Journal

Do you have a Plan B? If you don't, you should. And it doesn't have to mean bailing on your business. It's more about being nimble, being able to adapt to market changes or evolve as competitors emerge. Staying afloat might mean dropping prices, giving away samples, rebranding, or any number of image-shifting tactics.

My New Year Resolutions....... (thanks Eric)

#1: Eat healthier by adding more lettuce on my BLTs.

#2: Clean up the clutter in my bank account by going to Vegas.

#3: I will spend less than one hour a day on the Internet. This, of course, will be hard to estimate since I'm not a clock watcher.

#4: I resolve to only use my cell phone to call or text someone when they are not in the same building as I am.

Random Acts of Kindness
by Adrian Bevan -

I've found it very interesting recently to both read about (see Trend Spotting - 11 Consumer Trends for 2011 by Reinier Evers in this edition of CHAKRASM ) and experience so-called random acts of kindness (R.A.K.). Let me elaborate. Firstly, back in November last year, Karl and I were driving to a client appointment in Cape Coral, Florida and we were running a little late due to road construction and diversions. As we were waiting in line (a long line I might add!) at the only open toll booth to cross a causeway, a large red truck decided to jump the queue by driving to the front at speed, indicating his intent to get in line, and then cutting in front of us. Needless to say, neither Karl nor I were very impressed and only slightly muffled swearwords emanated from Mr Gibbons! Something about questioning the truck driver's parentage I seem to recall. When we finally got to the toll booth, Karl lowered the window to pay his $2 only to be told by the collector that the guy in the red truck ahead of us had already paid! Well, we went from irate to dumbstruck to elated at this random act of kindness by the guy who had cut in line. It made our day!
